Deputy Council Commissioner - Child and Youth Safety
Shining Waters Council
Serving the regions of York, Simcoe, Muskoka, Dufferin and Grey Bruce
Accountable to:
Council Commissioner
Term:
Appointed annually, to a maximum of 3
consecutive terms
Time Required:
2
to 4 hours per week; 2 weekends per year
Major
Responsibilities:
•
Ensures the implementation and promotion of all aspects of Children and
Youth (CYS) strategy for all
volunteers and youth members, and their parents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Promote and encourage a
culture of Child and Youth Safety throughout the Council.

Participate as a member of the
Council Management Committee and/or Council Service Team.

Provide support, training and
encouragement to attain 100% compliance with Scouts Canada Child and
Youth Safety procedures and guidelines.

Provide appropriate leadership
in the recruitment, training and direction of Child and Youth Safety
initiatives.

Make certain that the Council
is working and coordinated towards the Mission Statement and National
plans and that there are regular opportunities to review progress.

Monitor areas of
responsibility within the Council Plan and recommend changes where
appropriate.

Be pro-active in assisting
with the Child and Youth Safety practices.

With members of the
Council, work to ensure that the Area and Group levels receive
direct support relating to Child and Youth Safety.

Prepare articles for
the Council newsletters, focusing on Child and Youth Safety.

Demonstrates
a commitment to Scouting Mission, Principles and Practices through
personal development and sound management
practices

Knowledge of Scouting in Canada
